MIPCOM starts a conversation around positive social change

Events

Reed MIDEM is using its 2020 MIPCOM global content market to initiate an industry wide conversation around positive social change at a global level.

The ‘Change for Good’ programme explores the impact and influence the worldwide television industry can have across a wide range of global issues, from promoting diversity and inclusion, to minimising environmental impact and fostering responsible business practices.

Change for Good is being delivered as part of MIPCOM Week  (12-16 October) the 100% digital event which has replaced the MIPCOM 2020 market in Cannes due to Covid. Among the key events:

  • The UN’s Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, will deliver a keynote speech titled, “No Time To Waste: Communicating In A Climate Emergency”. Her address, which will explore the idea that how we communicate about climate change will make a difference to whether we can overcome it, will be live streamed worldwide from Paris on MIPCOM Online + on Tuesday 13 October.

  • Sky Group Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch will receive the inaugural MIP SDG Award for Climate Action and Protection of the Oceans in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The Sky Group is being recognised for its track record in setting the highest standards in sustainability and action on environmental issues. The award presentation will be live streamed on MIPCOM Online+ on 13 October.
  • The 4th edition of the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards will amplify and honour the most compelling creators, characters and stories promoting diversity and inclusion on all screens. The finalists have been chosen by charitable organisations and specialized publications that campaign for equality and inclusion. The awards ceremony will be live  streamed from Paris on MIPCOM Online+ on 13 October.

  • The official MIPJunior program is dedicated to addressing the responsibility that this sector of the industry has for the next generation with an agenda based on what children’s television is doing worldwide to create a better future.

“As the biggest and most influential week on international television, we want to make the best use of our platform to encourage the entertainment industry to use its power for good and celebrate and recognize the incredible work it does” says Laurine Garaude, Director of the Reed MIDEM Television Division.
