Winner of DCMS UK’s Most Innovative Cyber SME Competition announced as TryHackMe

Former Head of MI5 Baroness Eliza Manningham-Buller inspires Keynote Stage audience with how to lead when little is certain

Infosecurity Europe, ExCeL London, 23 June 2022: An exceptionally bustling and action-packed second day (Wednesday 22nd) at Infosecurity Europe saw TryHackMe announced as the UK’s Most Innovative Cyber SME, live on stage in the Innovation Showcase. The company provides hands-on, immersive security training through real-world scenarios, via a platform that anyone can access through their browser. The competition was run by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) in partnership with Infosecurity Europe and techUK. Visitors can meet the winner and other 13 finalists in the Innovation Showcase today (Thursday), where they are all exhibiting.

Topping the bill on the Keynote Stage was former Head of MI5 Baroness Eliza Manningham-Buller, who delivered an inspiring presentation on Leadership in an Age of Uncertainty. She explored how agility became more important during the pandemic, how businesses can be nimbler, and how to lead when little is certain. Also attracting a big audience on the Keynote Stage was investigative journalist Geoff White, reporter for the BBC and Channel 4 and author of The Lazarus Heist. Attendees at his session, Beyond the Lazarus Heist, were fascinated by Geoff’s account of how government-sponsored cyber attackers are increasingly interacting with organised crime gangs.

On Wednesday morning Infosecurity Magazine hosted the sixth annual Women in Cybersecurity Networking Event, which proved as popular as ever. The event consisted of a breakfast, a keynote presentation, a panel discussion, and networking opportunities.

Hundreds of cyber professionals and practitioners headed to Geek Street to develop their expertise and skills through hands-on learning activities, and join in-depth roundtable discussions on XDR + SIEM (hosted by Microsoft), incident and crisis management (NHS Digital) and securing critical industrial controls environments (Jacobs UK).

A series of skills-building Security Workshops also ran during the day, delivered by senior practitioners from Akeyless Security, Wib Security, Cloudflare, Crowdstrike, Cisco Secure, UKC3, Plexal, DCMS, Splunk, eSentire, Security AG, Rubrik, and Picus Security – covering topics ranging from API security to DDoS attacks.

Nicole Mills, Exhibition Director at Infosecurity Group, comments: “Infosecurity Europe has always been a crucible for innovation – a place to develop new ideas, and forge new relationships – and this year we’re feeling the buzz more than ever. We were thrilled to once again host the crowning of the UK’s Most Innovative Cyber SME, and hearty congratulations to TryHackMe, and all the other finalists. It’s also been great to see the huge number of visitors eager to take advantage of the opportunities to build their skills and learn about new technologies. The future of our industry starts here – and it’s looking bright!”
